The type of stressor that I see alot is divorce/separation. This type of stressor could also fall in the chaos category it causes alot of grief and confusion. I have experienced divorce at a young age and it is something I will never forget. My parents divorced when I was 10, I was forced to choose who I would live with and spend time with. The divorce affected my school work and also social life, I have a hard time trusting people. I don't let others do things for me because I have a huge fear of being let down. The program I currently work in I see alot of people come in and out these children lives. This week the parent is with this guy or girl and next week it is someone else. Children are very observant so as adults we must be careful of the choices we make.
In Japan, only one parent is allowed to maintain custody after a divorce. It is not unusual for a parent without custody to have no contact with their children. On the other hand, in the United States and many European countries, parents retain joint custody over their children and share the responsibility of raising their children even after a divorce. I can't even imagine not being able to see my father or mother at all, this is stressful just thinking about it.
Hi Angela. I also see this kind of stresor on children at school. Divorce can cause major chaos in a child's life. They don't know where they will be from one day to the next. I also mentioned this in my blog. It definetly affects a child's school work and social life. Also, it is sad that in Japan that the parent without custody doesn't usually see the child. That alone should be reason not to divorce, at least, not until the child is grown.
